What does “He had a good day at school” mean to you?

AT Traditional SCHOOL Environments, it means

“He was not in trouble. I can’t think of anything else”

AT BK ACADEMY IT MEANS

“He had a dinosaur puppet show. He was great with taking turns to be the director or the audience with his peers. He also practiced how to hold the scissors and cut at a 90-degree angle. When his friend said “Let’s have a quiet game” he said something very cute: “I can’t be quiet!” He’s so self-reflective.

Her talk will be about the following: There’s growing evidence that many gifted students are actually twice exceptional (2e) with co-occurring learning differences, processing challenges, or neurodiversity. Parents sometimes overlook legitimate challenges and instead call our kids quirky, sensitive, or perfectionists. Kids’ amazing ability to compensate and mask often delays recognition of their support needs. However, providing early intervention and supports can prevent many long-term challenges, ranging from academic underachievement to social, emotional, and psychological impacts. Learn about the most commonly overlooked causes of 2e and what clues to look for - so that you can identify the supports your kids will need to thrive, and ultimately lean in to supporting their strengths

NOW ACCEPTING 4th ad 5th GRADERS!

BK (Bellevue, King County) Academy is a post-constructivism school where teachers’ roles to guide and scaffold students are emphasized. We serve highly gifted students from preschool to 5th grade. BK Academy is a small school with an individualized curriculum and emphasis on social-emotional development. Dr. Meera Shin started the school to support her own gifted child and expanded it when she saw the needs of other gifted students weren’t being met with standard curriculum. The individual attention and support each child receives is why BK Academy stands out with neurologists, psychiatrists, and other cognitive experts in the region. To schedule a tour, hear about wait lists, or answer any questions you may email Dr. Meera Shin directly.

BK Academy meets gifted children’s needs where they are now.
